Named after Metro Manila's official mascot, Flying Ipis could very well embody the spirit of this megacity: equal parts sass, style, and grit, with a liberal serving of rock for full effect.
With a sound that critics have called OMGAWESOMESAUCE! Flying Ipis has been been ripping the mic, the stage (ripping the system, not so much) since 1995, playing high school fairs and rocking the faces off of people at bars they weren't even old enough to drink in—all before midnight on school days.
Grittier, wiser, and now of legal age, they're back with a brand new invention: their own flavor of alternative pop that can best be described as the lovechild from a wild night between surf music, funk, Pinoy indie pop, and nineties rock.
With Deng Garcia on the mic, Iris Jumao-as on bass, Gaki on drums, and Berns Salvador on guitar, Flying Ipis has been kicking ass all over. From Saguijo and Capone's in Makati to Route196 in Quezon City and even a train station for RockEd's Rock the Riles, the Roach Club has shown no signs of slowing down its tour of awesomeness, and they're only just warming up.
The plan is to infect (or infest?) Manila with the Ipis sound, and they're all set, ready... and go.
